Set up in Emperor Xianfeng¡¯s reign in the Qing Dynasty, it was located in the south of the west end of East liulichangxikou, Xuanwumenwai. It is said that during Emperor Qianlong¡¯s reign in the Qing Dynasty, there was a peddler named Liu who run a stall in Dashanlan. He got the formula for the imperial drink from one of his relatives serving as a eunuch in the Palace and made the Plum Juice with Sweet Osmanthus. The juice was popular and called Treasure from the Qing Palace and Imperial Plum Juice. In Emperor Xianfeng¡¯ reign, the peddler run his business in East Liulichang with a workshop behind the store named Xinyuanzhai.



It mainly offered sweet-sour plum juice, candid fruits, preserved fruits and sugared foods. The sweet-sour plum juice is clean and clear, tastes sour, sweet, fragrant, cool and refreshing. The candid fruits and preserved fruits were made of well-chosen materials, and have Preserved Hawthorn, Crabapple, Quince, apricot and more. Regular products have some 60 or 70 delicately made varieties such as Preserved Fruits, Plum Cake, Plum Paste, Pear Cream and others. In 1919, these products won the Gold Meddle in Panama International Fair. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Xinyuanzhai¡¯s business began to decline and was closed down before the liberation. In 1956, under the concern of Premier Zhou Enlai, it resumed its brand and technique but stopped again in the Cultural Revolution when it was merged to Dongcheng Food Factory and renamed Yidu Food Factory. In May 1984 and early 1985, the brand was restored and Xinyuanzhai Food Factory and Xinyuanzhai Preserved Fruit Shop were set up successively.

Xinyuanzhai Food Factory is located in Guandongdian, Chaoyang District, and Xinyuanzhai Preserved Fruit Shop in Chaoyangmen Outer Street with a workshop behind.
